When Should My Child See An Orthodontist

The Canadian and American Association of Orthodontists both recommend children should see an orthodontist for an evaluation by age 7. Many orthodontic problems are easier to correct if detected early rather than waiting unit jaw growth has slowed.

Phase I treatment, if necessary, is usually initiated on children between the ages of 7 and 10 and lasts 12 months. The primary objective of phase I treatment is to address dental concerns, that if left untreated may result in more extensive full treatment in the future.
